Why nature & spending

time outdoors?

¿Por qué la naturaleza y pasar

tiempo al aire libre?

“This growing number of studies suggests that nature connection can ease symptoms of depression and anxiety, help prevent or reduce obesity and myopia and boost the immune system - and those health benefits can lead to improved learning... for children and adults, connecting with the natural world can expand the senses, most importantly the sense of wonder.” -Richard Louv

Outdoor play encourages:

  • Physical activity, whether it is by yourself or with a group of friends and family members

  • Exploration, wonder & curiosity while exploring our natural world

  • All of those happy chemicals in our brains that calm and destress while walking in nature

  • Joy, fun and excitement, whether you are playing a game of whiffle ball or hiking a local trail

  • Unstructured play that sparks creativity, imagination play and builds social networks with friends

Research has shown the positive benefits of nature on overall well-being, health, academics and care for the earth. Watch and read below on some key concepts and research on why getting kids outside is so beneficial to their health and well-being.

RIchard Louv, author of the Last Child in the Woods, the Nature Principle, etc., was the keynote speaker for the 2010 Nature Play Summit in Vancouver, WA.
