Join the Cascade Forest Conservatory for a night featuring stories of adventure, conservation, and our connection to the natural world
Featured films for this NW film festival include:
BETWEEN EARTH AND SKY: Nalini Nadkarni pioneered the study of rainforest canopies and shares with us the gift of what she sees. She fell 50 feet and nearly died but continues her devotion to helping us appreciate the wonder of trees.
TO KNOW A PLACE: David Inouye has returned to the same high alpine meadows for the past fifty-two years to study wildflowers and hummingbirds. This film follows David, his son, and his granddaughter, through a season of summer research. An intimate look at the connection between place and identity, this film is a meditation on time and the intergenerational experience of change.
CONE PEOPLE: Unsung climate heroes who steal from squirrels to rebuild our forests ignite hope for rural communities and the fight against climate change.
THE LAST OF THE NIGHTINGALES: The Last of the Nightingales tells the story of how soundscapes change after a fire. Masha Karpoukhina’s documentary follows a soundscape ecologist who lost everything in a California wildfire.
hitoláayca GOING UPRIVER: Devin Reuben is training to be the first certified nimiipuu whitewater guide of his generation. The nimiipuu (Nez Perce) have a long history with river travel– in fact, they introduced the practice to settlers– but centuries of displacement and disconnection means Tribal members are now largely absent from their ancestral rivers. Devin says, “it’s one big step for us: not just me, all of us. We’re slowly bringing our culture back.”
