What better way to connect to nature on our local and regional public lands than going out for a hike?
No experience necessary for hiking, just a love of getting outside in the nature and making sure to leave the trail better than you found it. Learn more about Leave No Trace principles and more:
“In honor of #NationalTrailsDay, I pledge to be a trail steward, and to do my part to leave the trails and the outdoor community better than I found them.”
Visit these local and regional guides for hikes in nearby nature as well as regional gems:
Washington Trails Association - search for hikes in Southwest Washington and beyond, read trail reports to plan for your trip
Little Feet Hiking books - for families with strollers, toddlers, young kids, these books have all sorts of great advice from a mom who knows.
As with any adventure, plan ahead and be prepared for unseen conditions. Map your route on paper, in the event of losing cell phone service, pack plenty of water and food, dress in layers for the weather, bring a first aid kit, etc.
