Finding Balance: Self-Care in Birding

birdability

Self-care honors our bodies. Collective care creates systemic access. We need both for accessible birding. Join Birdability Captains Eric Clow and Jayme Boucher for Finding Balance: Self-Care in Birding, an open community discussion to kick off Birdability Week 2026!

What does self-care mean when you are birding with a disability or other health concern? And how can our birding communities share responsibility for creating the access that allows everyone to participate?

Self-care might mean birding while floating in a pool. Using adaptive equipment that reduces fatigue. Choosing a place where birds can be enjoyed without walking. Taking breaks, changing plans, or staying home and listening through a window while you lay in bed.

There is no single right way to care for yourself or connect with birds.

Eric and Jayme will invite us into a conversation about the creative and practical ways disabled birders make birding work for our bodies and minds. Come hear ideas from others, share what works for you, and explore how self-care can make birding more sustainable, enjoyable, and accessible, and how we can incorporate it into collective care for bird outings!

This virtual program is free and ASL and captions are provided, but advance registration is required. Find out more and register at
